Competitions - Olympic style Taekwondo
Taekwondo fighting (sparring) competition is an exciting and dynamic combat sport and has been a part of the Olympic program since 2000, after being trialed as a demonstration sport starting from the Seoul games in 1988.
Both Master Matt and Master Jade have significant experience and knowledge in Olympic style Taekwondo sparring and run a successful sparring team who (COVID aside) compete on a regular basis.
Competing in Taekwondo is not for everyone - our sparring program is there for those athletes who have expressed an interest to compete. Competitions are not pushed and not forced within the club.
Southern Stars Taekwondo has the capacity to develop sparring athletes starting as young as 6 years old and hold a yellow belt ranking - all the way up to open (18-30 yrs) black belts.
Our Junior program - JETS - is our fight centered program which aims to develop outstanding physical athletes who have a comprehensive knowledge of strategy and tactics.
Athletes are encouraged and nurtured regardless of their current level or their competition results. Ironically this methodology combined with our program has consistently produced many successful athletes. We regularly produce NSW and Australian champions, as well as International level podium finishes - our banner results include international gold in 12-14 years Black Belts (Lucas) and international gold in 15-17 Years Black Belts (Harley).
This information is provided so that the reader can have a good understanding of the excellence of our sparring program. Not all athletes can win all of the time. Naturally we applaud good results. More-so we applaud great performance and encourage personal development. We are proud of all our athletes and ensure the pathway is clear for them to go as far as they want to in their competition journey.
Master Matt has coached on the Australian Team and has significant international coaching experience. At Southern Stars Taekwondo we have pathways available to develop athletes from the beginner level all the way to international elite level competition.
